Out-of-Competition Testing

We conduct anti-doping tests collecting both urine and blood samples. We are happy to provide services ranging from collecting samples from just one athlete, athletes within a specific Test Pool, to conducting the entire OOC program for a Federation or other organisation. For example:

• Planning
• Dispatching and coordinating the DCOs and BCOs
• Review of the athletes whereabouts in ADAMS or other systems
• Sample collection materials
• Documentation
• Sample shipment
• Analysis agreements with laboratories

We coordinate with the appropriate anti-doping organisation in developing a test plan based on the test pool provided. The time, place and type (blood and/or urine) can be determined by us reviewing the training and competition schedules of the athletes in order to provide efficient and intelligent tests. The respective whereabouts can be researched in our ADAMS 3rd party module by our team whenever the test pool data is opened to us. Even missions based on a suspicion can be organised in a very short time.

The tests are being conducted based on the anti-doping rules of the particular anti-doping organisation if available. Otherwise we work in accordance with the WADA’s International Standard of Testing (IST).

PWC can manage the administration of your therapeutical use exemption (TUE) process for your testing pools in cooperation with an expert team.

The witnessing of urine samples will be done by same-gender personnel. As there is a risk of manipulation during the provision of urine our personnel are specifically trained in appropriate observation.

The density measurements of the urine sample are conducted with refractometers. This increases accuracy and reduces the likelihood of the athlete being required to provide additional samples.

Blood samples are only taken by specially trained and experienced medical personnel. According to the customer’s requirements serum or whole blood samples can be taken. The whole blood samples are collected in accordance with WADA’s “athlete biological passport” Guidelines.

The samples are cooled and shipped within the time required by the WADA Guidelines. If required the serums collected can be centrifuged on-site. The cold chain of the blood samples is monitored by temperature loggers end to end from collection to arrival in the laboratory.

The samples are shipped to a WADA accredited laboratory according to the customer’s requirements. If the customer has no preference, we normally deliver to the WADA laboratories in Dresden and Cologne.
